Best Wisdom Meditations to Try Today
A wisdom meditation helps you to develop insight to uncover what is holding you back, to get answers to questions in your life, or to learn how better to handle a difficult situation.
I’ve assembled a list of five guided wisdom meditations that I thought would be useful if you have anxiety. Have a read through and see if any of these sound appealing.
Before you start any meditation, be sure to find a spot free of distractions and get into a comfortable position, such as sitting on a meditation cushion or in a chair.
Meet Your Guide by Lilou Mace
Lilou has a soothing voice and does an amazing job of pausing long enough for you to really visualize the scene and get answers to the questions you are asking. This is a relatively short meditation but I found it really got to the heart of what a wisdom meditation should be about.
Lilou takes you on a journey to meet your guide (a person, or a vague image), which represents the wise part of yourself or universal intelligence. She helps you to relax by counting backward and bringing you into a deep state of relaxation before you begin your journey.
She also does a good job of describing the beach scene and making it feel very relaxing. You can also re-use this meditation anytime you want to ask your guide a question. This meditation does not include audio in the background, but this doesn’t seem to detract from it at all. It runs just under 10 minutes.
The Circle of Wisdom: A Short Time-Out for Busy People
This is another short guided meditation that takes you on a journey to find answers to your questions from the wisdom of the universe. In this case, your questions are transported in an orb, that is sent out for answers. You are then told that you will recieve those answers through messages in your daily life. There is also mention of figures that seem familiar.
The narrator’s voice is calm and relaxing, and I found this meditation brought up emotions as I thought of questions to ask and also who might be answering them. The whole meditation is just over 7 minutes long.
Deep Sleep Guided Meditation for Unlocking Your Sacred Spirit Wisdom
This long meditation (1.5 hours) is perfect if you struggle with insomnia or anxiety at night. The narrator Michael Sealey takes you on a journey into lucid dreams where you will access your inner wisdom and find answers to problems in your life.
The music is calming and relaxing as is the narrator’s voice. Most people commenting on the video report that they fell asleep before it was over and wondered if their subconscious continued to be influenced by the suggestions from the audio.
Connect with Your Inner Wisdom by Sarah Armide
This guided meditation is perfect if you are feeling anxious about the future and what it holds. Sarah takes you on a journey to talk to a trusted friend who shares with you that what you are hoping for will come to you in perfect timing and that you don’t have to worry.
Your friend also shares that in the meantime, you need to find the joy in the here and now. This is a good message for all of us to carry with us every day. I found the piano music very calming and the narrator’s voice is crisp, clear, and soothing. This is also a good meditation if you are feeling like you have a lack of support in your life.
Contacting Our Inner Wisdom, Mindfulness Meditation with Tara Brach
This guided meditation is a little different than the others. It asks you to imagine letting a wise being take control of your body in a difficult situation that you’ve been experiencing. It’s suggested that the being could be someone you know, perhaps even your dog (okay, this made me laugh a little).
Tara Brach is a well-known meditation teacher, so it’s worth listening to this meditation for that reason alone. It’s also very short (under 8 minutes) and offers a unique approach to the others. I suggest this meditation if you are finding trouble controlling your emotions in difficult situations or when dealing with difficult people.
Whether you are looking for a short guided meditation to help you find answers to your questions or a longer guided meditation to help relieve anxiety and drift off to sleep, I think one of the above guided meditations will be of use. Which one did you choose? Let me know in the comments.
