Best Songs About Anxiety
Are you interested in listening to songs about social anxiety or with lyrics that resonate with you? I’ve put together a small collection of songs, ranging from ballads to club beat.
Some are older and some are newer, but they all have one thing in common. They’ve got something to do with social anxiety!
I’ve included a short description as well as some lyrics that you might find interesting. My favorites are In My Blood by Sean Mendes and Real Friends by Camila Cabello.
If you’re interested in finding other songs about social anxiety, I found a neat tool that lets you search song lyrics for specific words.
I Am a Rock – Simon & Garfunkel
“I am a rock,
I am an island.
I’ve built walls,
A fortress steep and mighty”
How Soon is Now – The Smiths
“How Soon is Now” is a song about shyness, alienation, and social isolation.
“I am the son and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar”
Creep – Radiohead
This song from Radiohead is about feeling awkward around a girl.
“When you were here before,
Couldn’t look you in the eye
You’re just like an angel,
Your skin makes me cry”
People Are Strange – The Doors
Jim Morrison sang about feeling like an outsider in the song “People are Strange”.
“People are strange when you’re a stranger
Faces look ugly when you’re alone
Women seem wicked when you’re unwanted
Streets are uneven when you’re down”
Boulevard of Broken Dreams – Green Day
A reference to Sunset Boulevard, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” reflects the solitary existence of someone with social anxiety.
“I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don’t know where it goes
But it’s home to me and I walk alone”
Every Day is Exactly the Same – Nine Inch Nails
“Every Day is Exactly the Same” is about living a life without joy or sorrow; without ups or downs. It is the experience of many with social anxiety who live isolated and compartmentalized lives.
“I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
I just do what I’ve been told
I really don’t want them to come around”
In My Blood – Sean Mendes
“In My Blood” is a song about Sean Mendes’ personal experience with anxiety.
“Help me, it’s like the walls are caving in
Sometimes I feel like giving up
No medicine is strong enough
Someone help me”
Loner – Theory of a Deadman
“Loner” by Theory of a Deadman is about being a solitary type of person but being okay with it even though you are misunderstood by other people.
“I wish I wasn’t so shy
I’m just the weirder type
‘Cause you don’t know
How life goes for me”
Unwell – Matchbox 20
“Unwell” by Matchbox 20 is a song about mental illness. Most likely it describes paranoia, but certain lyrics like the one below are reminiscent of social anxiety.
“I’m talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know they’ve all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper”
Breathin’ – Ariana Grande
“Breathin'” by Ariana Grande is about anxiety in general and being able to stop and take a breath in order to ground yourself and move forward. The song is about Ariana’s personal experience with anxiety.
“Some days, things just take way too much of my energy
I look up and the whole room’s spinning
You take my cares away
I can so over-complicate, people tell me to medicate”
Real Friends – Camila Cabello
“Real Friends” by Camila Cabello is about not feeling as though you have any real friends.
“I stay up, talkin’ to the moon
Been feelin’ so alone in every crowded room
Can’t help but feel like something’s wrong, yeah
‘Cause the place I’m livin’ in just doesn’t feel like home”
Nervous – Sean Mendes
“Nervous” by Sean Mendes is about being nervous around a girl.
“I saw you on a Sunday in a cafe
And all you did was look my way
And my heart started to race
And my hands started to shake, yeah”
Xanax – Lindsay Lohan
“Xanax” by Lindsay Lohan is about feeling as though you don’t want to be out in a crowd or only want to be with one person.
“I got social anxiety, but you’re like Xanax to me, yeah
Social anxiety, when you kiss me, I can’t breathe
No, I can’t be in this club
It’s too crowded and I’m f*cked”

Some of these are affiliate links, so if you decide to try them, I’ll earn a commission. However, I only recommend things I have used myself and would recommend to a friend or family member.
Social Anxiety Masterclass: The Social Anxiety Masterclass is my signature course where I walk you through everything I know about how to manage social anxiety.
Audible Subscription: I recommend a lot of self-help books on this site, but I actually prefer an audiobook subscription over print books! My favorite subscription service is Audible because it has all the best-sellers and they stay in your digital library forever (even if you end your subscription). You can sign up for a free trial and listen to your first two books for free.
