The Best Social Anxiety T-Shirt
I scoured the Internet for a good social anxiety t-shirt and was a bit disappointed to see so many about hating and avoiding people. That’s not what social anxiety is all about, and it really perpetuates the myths that 1) socialy anxious people are snobs and 2) socially anxious people should avoid people to feel better. Instead, I think shirts should be inspirational and raise awareness.
So, I did by best to round up some t-shirts that are at least a bit positive and motivational, or at least cute and funny. Below are what I found. I made sure to only choose shirts that I would actually wear myself, so you could find me in one of these t-shirts on any given day.
I could only find seven that I truly liked, so if you know of any other good ones, please be sure to let me know.
I’m Only Talking to My Dog Today
If you’ve got a dog, this is a cute social anxiety t-shirt. Yes, there are days when you might only feel like talking to your dog, and that’s okay. Just make sure that it’s not everyday, and that you make a point of pushing beyond your comfort zone once in a while.
I’m not sure when or why it started, but the rainbow seems to have become the symbol for social anxiety. In fact, it’s almost as though social anxiety has been rendered “cool” by this rainbow trend. What I think about this is that probably most people wearing a social anxiety t-shirt with a rainbow actually have only minimal social anxiety; or they wouldn’t be confident enough to wear the t-shirt. If I’m wrong, please let me know in the comments!
Anxiety is My Cardio
I’ve seen many variations of this social anxiety t-shirt is around, and I have to say I like it. It gets the point across that anxiety can truly wear you out when you live with it every day. Just like going to the gym each day, having a regularly heightened sense of arousal takes it’s toll. I think this shirt is probably most popular for wearing to the gym, so that’s probably what I would buy it for. In fact, I’d love to wear this while running a 5k race.
Do you have a cat? Just like dog lovers will like the first shirt, cat lovers will probably find this social anxiety t-shirt cute too. I actually like it myself, even though I’m not a cat person and don’t have a cat. It’s very relatable to social anxiety without being dismissive or propagating any myths. And it’s just darn cute.
Let That Sh*t Go
How many of us couldn’t stand to “let that sh*t go” once in a while? This t-shirt serves as a reminder that sometimes it’s just not worth stressing over things. Whether or not you like this shirt will probably depend on the language you find acceptable and where you think you could wear it. I could see buying it and keeping it “on standby” for those days where everything is just going wrong. In fast, it could be like a “symbol” to yourself or others to leave you alone for the day.
Namaste with Flower
Are you into yoga? Yoga can be a wonderful stress reliever, and this shirt would be perfect for a yoga class. You could also just wear it day-to-day as a conversation starter with other yogaholics. I would aboslutely wear this shirt; I think it’s very calming and positive.
You Can Be Anything, So Be Kind
We know that helping other people can actually reduce your social anxiety. So… if you can be anything, why not be kind? This t-shirt is a reminder to do that. I can see this shirt being helpful on those days when you are feeling sorry for yourself. Put it on, think of some helpful things you can do for other people, and go do them! Then see if you feel any better.
What about you? Would you wear a shirt that showed you live with social anxiety? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
